Tier 4 – Student Visa Guide:

This section explains how you can apply for permission to come to or remain in the UK as a student or a student visitor. The route you choose will depend on your age, and on the length and level of the course that you want to study.

Before you can apply for permission to enter or remain in the UK under Tier 4 (General), your education provider must assign a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS) to you. This confirms that you have been given an unconditional offer of a place on a course of study with a licensed Tier 4 sponsor.If you have a valid CAS, you can score 30 points in our points assessment.

Some documents required:

  • Documents used by college to assess academic ability – CAS
  • Own Funds: Personal bank or building society statement/s or passbook/s,
    Letter from Bank, building society or financial institution,
  • Parent’s Funds: birth certificate showing names of parent(s)/ certificate of adoption showing names of both parent(s) or legal guardian/ a court document naming the legal guardian, Letter from parents or legal guardian, Official Financial Sponsorship or Government Sponsor, Letter of confirmation from the official financial sponsor or Government sponsor,
  • * PBS dependants: Evidence of relationship with main applicant, Evidence that there is £533 per month (if the main applicant is studying inside London) up to a maximum of 9 months or £400 per month (if the main applicant is studying outside London) up to a maximum of 9 months , in main applicant’s or their personal bank account for maintenance, and that the money has been there for at least 3 months prior to the date they make their application
  • A copy of the pages from main applicants passport/travel document showing permission to stay, if already in the UK.
  • All original documents must be carried at the time of submission of documents to VFS and embassy.

You should submit the following:

  • Valid Passport for at least 6 months
  • Completed Student Visa Application form
  • All documents above and more if required.
  • 1 recent passport-sized (45mm high x 35mm wide) colour photograph of yourself. The photograph should be (see example below):
    • Taken against a light grey or cream background. It should be in sharp focus, clear and of good quality, free from shadows.Printed on normal photographic paper.
    • Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering unless worn for religious or medical reasons. The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
    • The photograph should be a recent true likeness and taken within the last 6 months.

Pay your visa application fee

INR 14,950 for Tier 4 Student Visa category. Carry cash or draft at VFS. The fees is non-refundable in the event visa gets refused. The consular rate of exchange is £1=Rs.75.

You should normally apply at the VFS visa application centre in, or closest to, the state in which you are documented as being resident. Please contact VFS if you have any doubts as to where to make your application.
