IELTS
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is conducted jointly by the British Council, the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (known popularly as the Cambridge ESOL) and IELTS Australia, which is the sub-division of IDP, the leading educational organization of the country of Australia. IELTS in India is a paper based test.
Now students can chose between IELTS, TOEFL and PTE. All tests are recognized worldwide – in UK, USA, Canada, Australia etc.
TOEFL
The TOEFL test is the most widely accepted test to evaluate your English-language skills. This test can help you get admission in most of the colleges/universities across the globe.
The TOEFL test is administered by the US-based “Educational Testing Service” (ETS). ETS sets the questions, conducts the test, and sends each examinee the score report. You can take the TOEFL test in either of the two formats; Internet-based test (iBT) or Paper-based test (PBT). The format you take depends on your test center location. Toefl in India is a computer based test and is taken online.
PTE
Pearson Test of English General (PTE General) is designed to reward positive achievement in English language learning. It started with the GMAC Council, who started the GMAT and GRE tests.
It is also recognized worldwide, but the test results come faster than Toefl and Ielts.
SAT
The SAT test is used to evaluate a candidate’s critical thinking and problem solving skills which would help to measure their overall ability and potential to undertake the bachelor level study program.
This test is taken at an Undergraduate level to obtain scholarships in USA and some Universities in Canada. UK and other countries do not give scholarships after taking SAT.
GMAT
Graduate Management Admissions Test or GMAT is a 3-½ hour standardized test undertaken by graduates who are keen to study MBA programs. This test is designed to evaluate the potential of students by assessing their mathematical, verbal and analytical writing skills. GMAT test, initially prepared for use by the Institutes/Universities of U.S. offering programs in management and business, is now used as a criterion for allotting admission to students globally by more than 1700 universities/institutes.
This test is taken for Postgraduate scholarships and admissions in US and Canadian Universties. Only a few UK Universities demand GMAT test for MBA admissions.
GRE
Developed by Educational Testing Service (ETS) based in the US, the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) has been developed to evaluate the verbal, analytical and mathematical skills of the candidates. The scores of this standardized test helps the graduate schools (conducting courses other than business related studies) to assess the advanced study potential of their prospective students.
